Flashing ambers

They flash for a reason
Those amber lights
If no one’s coming
You’re free to go
Just a quick look
And you’re off
Getting closer to that place
Looking forward
To those stolen moments
Where nothing else really matters.
Red spells danger and
Green means go
It’s good to be told
when to stop
And when to go
But those flashing ambers
They’re tricky little things
They tell us we’re in control
Of what’s around the corner.
As long as we can see the road ahead
Those flashing ambers are fine
Friendly anarchy in action but
They must be terrible for insurance.
What if there was an accident?
Who’d be to blame?
The guilty party could think
of plenty of excuses
To smooth the way
And it’s not inconceivable to suggest
It was actually the fault
Of those lovely amber lights.
But what the hell
As long as the coast’s clear
You can go
No waiting
Just a quick look
The other way
And you’re off.
