Absentee

She foresaw you were all set to walk
- of course she knew
From the outset, you were bored
-you were a coward
And she knew you had no staying power
-that you felt cornered.
She sensed that whatever happened,
-trapped by commitment
You would leave at the first chance
-the child mattered not
Even her cries couldn’t touch you.
-impervious to all,
Only your own selfish needs were important.
-how could she have expected anything more
After all, this wouldn’t be the first time
- you were a serial absent father.
