A sentimental Journey Back

I look behind as sunbeams play
on memories of yesterday.
Sentimental journeys taken
on my minds eye sweet pictures stay.
Sentimental journeys taken
with kith and kin not forsaken,
backward into that golden time
When love could not be mistaken.
Backward into that golden time,
when childlike purity sublime
reigned alongside skulduggery
and scrumping was a heinous crime,
reigned alongside skulduggery
when school was out and we roamed free.
The noise in decibels grew loud
with village kids out on a spree.
The noise in decibels grew loud,
canal lock meetings drew our crowd.
Diving was our favourite sport
of aquatic skills we were proud.
Diving was our favourite sport
defying mother, being caught
always our primary concern
and danger was an afterthought.
