Dark Tidings

I have seen the tide rising
though no one else turns
their eyes to the sea, angry
and spiting. They run about
their busy lives and I don't
blame them for keeping
their gazes turned because
the tide, oh the tide
has come so high. I cannot
turn my eyes away
as they do. Mine are glued,
attached, bound to the sea.
It is angry, it is rearing
and it is coming for me.
I have seen the clouds gathering.
I can feel the storm brewing.
The winds are shifting and
biting my skin. Others
tuck their heads and push on,
wrapping trenching about their
bodies and face the cold unchanging.
Yet, my body shakes and trembles.
I cannot stand against the wind,
it swirls and tumbles.
It will overcome me.
It is coming.
I have seen the stars go out.
No one else notices
the stars. Minds are turned off,
gazes do not turn upwards.
They are down, down
downcast. And there they shall
remain. But mine cannot
break free. It is already broken
like the dark stars
dying in the night.
They are gone, dead.
And soon I will follow.
