"Look what I've found" said Mr Grasshopper as he rolled a strange shiny object into their house.
"What on earth is that?" asked Mrs Grasshopper.
"It's erm. I don't know. But it's pretty isn't it. I brought it here for you as a gift for your birthday."
"Oh, darling, you are so thoughtful." Said Mrs Grasshopper and a tear of happiness rolled down her short green nose.
They kept it in pride of place bang in the middle of the sitting room and named it Sweetness as it represented the sweet love they had for each other.
That evening Mr Grasshopper took Mrs Grasshopper to a surprise party for her birthday. All their friends were there and by the light of fifty glowworms they danced to the music of the crickets. It was perfect.
When they returned they found Sweetness in pieces on the floor.
"Who could have done such a thing?" Shrieked Mr Grasshopper.
Mrs Grasshopper ran straight to her room, buried her head under a petal and began to weep.
Mr Grasshopper went bright red in his cheeks. "Whoever did this will be punished." And he sprang out of the house with his eyes peeled wide hoping to spot the hooligan before they could get too far.
Puffed out he returned. He'd bounced around the whole area and found nothing. Not even a clue. He decided to go and console his dear wife.
As he came beside her there was a tremendous flapping sound from above. Something with huge beautiful coloured wings was descending on them.
"Alright, ladies and gents..." Said the butterfly. "I've just come to collect me things" and he picked up the bits of Mr Grasshoppers broken gift.
Both Mr and Mrs Grasshopper gasped. "You're our Sweetness!" they exclaimed together.
"Well, I'm Alfie actually..." said the confused butterfly, adjusting his hat.
"You gave me such happiness, now I realise what's happened won't you stay for tea and I'll explain."
Alfie agreed and whilst Mr Grasshopper put the kettle on and prepared some nibbles Mrs Grasshopper explained everything.
