Anchor Chain
The anchor chain is blood salt sticky
iron tanged cold implacable loops
supposedly swell and storm proof
linking my little popping cockleshell
to deep hooked silt
dragged into a lock of rocks
stone fingers jammed into the sea floor
gripped tight
It allows me to bob in the surface surf
the silver glint of a pointilist seascape
links waves of experience to feeling
memory curled about my deepcore
self luminescent
but sometimes the heavy chill of it
holds only loss
that you are gone forever
however strong the chain
and it shackles
I want to be wind pushed
on a grey scurry
