Carmen Trees

Carmen trees have flamenco flounces of hot latin colour
on still autumnal mornings they await the overture
poised ranks of Corp de Ballet trembling a little
holding their pose under shivering lace
but ready to toss their petticoats and stride about the stage
arching arms and twisting wrists
sashaying hips
pulling up from the trunk to lengthen a neck
the designer has revelled in red,ochre,orange,umber
saved the gold for the Toreadors swinging crimson cape
as always the seasons flaming song
reminds us of our passionate selves
of desire and time passing
