I'v never been good at funerals
I'm the one sobbing and gasping over a virtual
stranger
running out of tissues and trying not to howl
my nose going redder and redder
"Were you close"? people would ask
and I would have to admit.. not
just overcome somehow
rolled over by a salty wave
of other peoples grief
Now I will have to find gratitude words
and thanks words and speak them
bravely like a head girl
Weren't they lucky
the two of them
so lucky to find each other
so late in life
and how much they enjoyed each others
company
sharing music
and happy details of life
When I ring up I will miss
"hello Dear
I'll just pass you over to your Mother"
