The sun stored egg yolk warmth under coffee ground earth
dripping from the shower

The compost reached down and pushed up through roots
first the Hedera Helix
yellowed its veins

Then evergreens blonded their tips
the colour flashing from shrub to shrub
on a birds breast

Then a shrub gilds itself in duckling
chick plumage forsythia
painted in poster paint
a runny daub
spread out to dry on the formica
