Gran Canaria

Lying in the dark
Split far apart
By the single beds
And the separate covers
The too-soft pillows
The great expanse of white, white sheets
Too far to even kiss the back of your head 

But when the sun comes up
Sky is blue on blue on blue
We plop into the pool
And you cling to me like a limpet
Kiss my cheek like that - just kiss it
Clamber on my back and let me whizz you
Through the water
Grip your legs
Squeeze you all over
And nuzzle your neck

And then the night comes again
Back to the desert dunes of the bed
White sheet ocean between us
But at least we know we have the pool
The pool tomorrow
Again.
