We sat supping cheap pints
Awkwardly on low stools
Faces warmed by an open fire
Various Louises' on the wall
Your hair was perfect
I know now mine was too long
We spoke and spoke and spoke
And I hoped those words would become a song
I swear you once said to me on an escalator
"Would anyone notice if we kissed?"
I think I panicked. I think I blinked
The moment had been missed.
So we didn't kiss
I was probably all joviality
All loud
All rowdy
I bet you don't remember
Maybe you'd say it wasn't you
But at that moment I wanted to
And at that moment it was true.
