Savernak Sid

There once was a pirate called Savernak Sid,
who sailed the seas in a dustbin lid.
Though the seas were choppy and shark-infested
he never stopped and he never rested.
But in his life he had one great pleasure:
the search for the island of buried treasure.
There once was a burglar named Bishopston Bob
who lived for the thrills and spills of his job.
He filled his house from the roof to the floor
with loot and booty and swag galore.
But the richer he got the sadder he grew.
There was nothing left in the world to do.
There once was a copper named Totterdown Tess
who had solved all the crime in the Wicked West.
But when she caught Bishopston Bob it was clear
she had reached the pinnacle of her career.
They sat in his kitchen and drank cups of tea.
And the wind blew north-easterly, in from the sea.
So Totterdown Tess gave policing the boot.
And Bishopston Bob gave back all his loot,
apart from an old and curious box
full of treasure maps, riddles and pirate socks.
Then both of them jumped in their own dustbin lid
and sailed for the ocean, like Savernak Sid.
