All my life

All my life I’ve been
fucked-up as somebody obscene
Now I’m safe and old
I’m wooed and wowed
‘Have you been a good girl,
eaten all your bread?’
What a thrill
to make folk like you
by mastication and not defecating
Short of breath
I sometimes wheeze:
Oh Please! Oh Please! Oh Please!
Healthy bodies falling to their knees
They take me to hospital
Put me on a drip
Sirens gone
I enjoyed the trip
A bird’s eye view
Of what will become of you
Beware!
Purgatory spent in the common,
soiled, plastic chair
living a recurrent dream
Nobody visiting her they say
Drop their eyes and pass by
Difficult to conjure up a surprise
Yet—
the black sheep finds its flock
crazy-paving of funeral plots
chaos—
no one in control
pick out a soul
no flowers, no howlers, no first prize
sunburnt bodies and earthburnt bodies freely mix
save your kindness for another day
happiness is north of here
ask your neighbour
why you need to pray
and are remembered that way.

I've never had to witness to
I've never had to witness such a scene as this. My dad died quickly at age 52. My mom lived to 84 and died on the cab ride to the hospital, cmplaining of bad indigestion. Powerful stuff, CM. Will read it again. It seems to speak to me. I guess it's just part of getting to the other side of sixty and relaizing there is an end to all of this.

I'm banking on a long,
I'm banking on a long, difficult, undignified old age, could be me in a few years time. That's ok.

Hi CN
Hi CN
I liked the idea of sunburned bodies and earthburned bodies mingling.
This reminds me of my trip to see my sister, and how pointless her life now seems. If it were me, I'd rather be dead.
