Tuesday 30 September
Today something really weird happened.
I got on the school bus this morning, and sat next to Nettie as usual. She asked if I was Lenny Mass, to which I replied that I was. I thought nothing of it at the time; thinking she was joking.
We got off the bus and started walking into the school building. Nettie told me that hanging out with me and the Reater twins looks like fun.
"What do you mean, looks like?" I asked.
"NETTIE!" Came the sound of Michelle's annoying voice. "What are you doing, talking to her? I'm your only friend, remember?"
I frowned, confused, as I watched Nettie run off to join Michelle.
"Am I seeing this right?" Wendy asked, at the beginning of Maths.
The three of us were looking at the back of the classroom, where Nettie was sitting with Michelle. I then told the twins about Michelle's threat yesterday, and what Nettie had said to me this morning
"Are you saying Michelle's done something to Nettie?" Johnny asked.
At that moment, Mrs East came into the classroom, clapping her hands and telling everyone to 'quiet down'.
"Right, everyone! I will go round and give each of you a hundred paper clips. I then want you to work in twos or threes, and give each other multiplication and division sums. Demonstrate the answer to each other by using the vanishing spell on the paper clips. No calculators!"
In between each sum, me and the twins kept an eye on Nettie and Michelle. We overheard Michelle give Nettie the sum six times seven. We all knew Nettie wasn't the best with mental maths, and we watched the look of struggle as she tried to work it out in her head.
"You're a bit thick, aren't you?" Michelle asked, nastily. "It's forty two. Like so," she waved a hand over her paper clips, and fifty eight of them disappeared.
"Sorry," Nettie apologised. "You know I'm no good with maths."
"Don't be soft," Michelle retorted. "That was an easy one. You're just stupid."
At that moment, I stood up and stormed. So did Craig.
"What do you want?" Michelle sneered.
"Nettie, why are you sitting with her?" Craig asked. "Have you fallen out with Lenny and the twins?"
"I've never been friends with them," came the reply. "Michelle is my only friend."
"Quiet, Nettie!" Michelle ordered. "I speak for you."
"Craig was talking to Nettie," I said. "I don't know if you heard him saying her name just then."
By now, the whole class was watching.
"Nettie, she broke your elbow," piped up Kim. "Me and Laura had to find Mrs Burns to look after you."
"What is going on?" Mrs East called out. "It seems that Miss Scoot and Miss Corner have settled their differences, and are able to work together. Miss Mass. Mr Cado. Back to your seats, and get on with your work everyone, please!"
After Maths came English. As we filed into the classroom, Wendy grabbed Michelle, and hissed:
"Don't know what you've done to Nettie. But I promise, we will find out!"
Michelle pulled a sarcastic 'I'm scared' face.
"Don't know you're talking about," she smirked.
Well, it's time for bed, and I know I won't sleep, because I'll be thinking about poor Nettie.
Ew, what's wrong with my hand?
Goodnight,
Lenny
:)
