Far off friends

Darkness tiptoes in like a silent foe
Waiting to strangle me with
Far off thoughts.
Not so long ago the phone
Would ring
And laughter would spread its wings and fly
On air made of birthday breaths.
Yet, for a few nights
You lie in a distant bed
Partaking of new sights
Thinking not of me but
Endless tomorrows.
So I let the night engulf me
And I breathe in its tears
Letting them run off me
Like beating rain
On these large panes,
For tomorrow you'll be home
And in my selfish way
I can say,
I missed you and how glad I am
You're home.
