A story is told quitely in sullen respite in the town of Ada
about a boy named David Harkers fight to whatever end
his father left him when he was only two
his mother forced him in a drunken rage to do what he had to
David always dreamed of singing onstage
hearing the roar of the crowd dulling his pain
if only David did not die on his sixteenth birthday.
He worked inside a cloud covered mine in Dells
kicking and screaming each time he went into the mouth of hell
he never had a chance to say goodbye to his secret love
family always needed more and held them like a wingless dove.
David died when the bullet ripped through his heart
tried to rob the neighbors worthless dusty gold
no one cared that he passed away so quick
his dying words were for his love to find a better pick
at a life he could not provide for himself or his mother
the town laid him to rest in a mock cobblestone grave
everyone thought their town was better off without another knave.
People say you can still hear David singing merrily
on the banks of Old Mills lake where he drew his last breath
he only did what he had to do to save his cursed family
however I am sure his soul deserves a place amongst the angels.
To this day the town of Ada is fast to remember that boy
his music still drifts through every alley and mountain
if only the town saw the immortal good in his eyes
but thats how this story swiftly passed on roving toungues
his name was David and he died trying to save those he dearly loved.
