As a hailstorm of energetic mass and bodies cascaded over Marcus's head he regretted the day he enlisted into the service of the Ethereals with an odd sense of rigour that it would be fun. Hunting and killing was always second nature to him. After a single Para Year he realized that this was by far the worse mistake he ever made and was nothing compared to all the shit he stirred while in the land of the living. He then quickly took cover behind a wall of twisting rubble and spat cursing into the Omni reflector.
"We need an evacuation unit, Delta Gunnery Dimension. Multiple casulties and enemies accumulating beyond our control."
The small ornately carved metallic device flickered and a small crevice opened in the center as a whisp of a face appeared stricken with dismay.
"Negative, Marcus, we cannot reach you in Black Zone Zero. Make rendevous with Arcadian Field squad immediately. Proceed with absolute caution."
Marcus closed the device when a hand jutted forth and clutched his leg jolting him back and burrowing his ripping piece of iron terror into the mangled corpse of the fallen soldier.
"Please...help me..."
Before he could finish his grasping pleas of useless mercy he cocked back the repressor and unloaded every round his weapon could dish out. Better to die again than live on to become something much worse.
Marcus sprinted pass the fallen pillar adjacent to where the enemy continuously rained death and destruction upon its hapless victims. He had to know what he was up against to make damn sure he could either survive its onslought or stop it dead in its tracks.
Peeking over slowly he saw the glint of a hideously enormous Decadent; an insideous Ethereal made machine that stood over eight feet tall with three legs and six ungodly, gaping heads. A creature of sheer chaos armed heavily with frontal and rear weaponry at the ready to lay waste to everything in its way. This was not a battle that could be won on the offensive.
Marcus took his chance as the creature looked the other way and headed towards home.
