Born when the cold becomes too much
But has not yet frozen the core
Making the sap expand: cracks form
Drawing wetness, freezing with air
Breaking makes magical beauty
Petals too delicate to touch
Most visible at dawn, in shade,
Melting with the spring sunshine.

That's beautiful. I hadn't heard of such, but looked up some more images now! Thank you.

I have seen beautiful decorated gorse bushes etc covered in needles of hoar frost that can look like flowers on them. Rhiannon

Much appreciated - I was lost in pictures of them for ages. Such a fascinating phenomena. And it's fun writing poems about science (I used to work in science festivals until my mobility worsened)
