God Blessed Arizona.
By Brian Kelly
They, once mighty trees that watched the changing times,
Stood on this land, as around this Earth, many others stood.
But ages passed and through the act of nature's silent mimes
Land and soils slipped, trees now buried, became dead wood.
But after years of being petrified, by mystic minerals, into stone
The soils now washed away, reveal the wondrous layers of onyx.
Quartz, in green, yellow ochre, reds and many shades of roan
So beauteous in design, finely crafted by nature's slow tectonics.
I've stood, a mere human man, and marvelled at this fine design,
And felt ethereal power, which from these cold stones so divine
Does emanate and fill the soul of one who knows there is a God.
A God who blessed the State of Arizona with such wondrous sights.
Where glorious sunset in so many hues of red, does paint a desert.
Digs deep a gorge, so spectacular and so large it's boundaries flirt,
From Devil's earthly bowels to God's great skies, aye, and beyond
The spread of any human gaze. O'er all this God did wave his wand.
Let not this now be ruined by man, his selfish ignorance displayed,
Think, now think again, gifts from God should be with homage paid.
Or 'morrow's child will live through life with nought of beauty here.
Eternal quest for luscious life, devours the joys, but ne'er sheds a tear
Tears made by God, to show humility, in respect of nature's grace,
Who's awesome powers could sweep aside the feeble human race.
So stand today and make a vow, Earth's beauties to embrace,
A deed in covenant you'll swear, to keep this Earth, a truly wondrous place.
And to this wondrous land God did bring man, for him to behold,
Through generations handed down, fine stories he has told
Aborigines in fine regalia robed, held stewardship, aye and held it well,
Hopi, Apache, Navajo, with humility afore, the beauties of this land did tell.
Then white man came and saw this boundless land, laid clear before his eye
At first, in awe and with respect, intentions good, but these were soon to die
Mighty Phoenix did arise to spread it's wings o'er vast acres of this land,
Where migrant aborigines had long watched o'er times slow shifting sand.
Times do change, not always to the better,
Greed and Speed are white man's Gods. Of nature's treasures cares not he,
But no, 'tis not too late, so reform now, then we'll not lose our natures' legacy.
