If, When I Die

IF,When I Die.
Brian Kelly.
If, when I die, I have not cleared the debts,
Which I may owe, for pleasures of my time,
And if, by unintended chance I leave regrets,
As up the torturous steps to heaven I do climb,
Forgive me lord.
If, when I die, many tasks are left undone,
Which I, with good intention had cause to do,
And if, full warranted apologies did not come.
It was not because my heart was, feign, untrue.
Forgive me Lord.
If, when I die, it's said, there goes a boastful man.
It was not for boast, but to listen for acclaim,
When efforts made, seemed worthy of a pa-ean,
And were ignored, when I expected fame.
Forgive me Lord.
If, when I die, my name is oft bandied 'round,
In mark of achievements executed well.
I say to all, who speak this fawning sound.
Was life a success? Now only time will tell.
