YORKSHIRE UNITED.
Yorkshire; magnificent, rolling, majestic Yorkshire.
Oh, these broad acres, which do worthy poets inspire.
Rolling Wolds, hard craggy fells, dark forbidding moor,
Kudos, by nature given, the wiles of ages will endure.
Sophisticated peoples, yet they call a spade, a spade,
Honest invitation, warm welcome, to the visitor is made.
Insensitive officials tried to break the Ridings down,
Ridiculous Metropolitan Counties, in officialdom did drown.
Extinct for e're they will be, their plans will all misfire.
Unique were the special Ridings, which made no county splits.
North from mighty Middlesbrough, South passed Rotherham's pits
In view from Western bounds one could see the Irish Sea.
To North Sea on Eastern reach, where fishermen work the quay.
Exclusive to the Yorkshire born, a deeply inner pride,
Dependent, honest, reliable; qualities they so humbly hide.
