Chapter 9
Amber settled down, resting on the sleeping bag as she stared up at the ceiling. She noticed how beautiful it was to look at; the ceiling was high and arched and looked like it was once filled with rich colours of pinks and creams. The church had several chandeliers that would have looked beautiful if they weren’t in such disrepair, the crystal glass filled with cobwebs and dust. Amber yawned as exhaustion took over, she had, had a very long day. Amber yawned again forcing her to drift off to sleep.
Amber opened her eyes slowly and tried to look around, everything seemed eerily dark. So Amber waited for her eyes to adjust. They didn’t. Amber began to panic as she heard a strange scraping sound. She wasn’t sure where it was coming from, but she knew it was close. Amber began to push herself upright. She couldn’t move, why couldn’t she move, Amber looked down at her arms. They seemed bonded by something, if she could only see. Amber tried to push herself up again, but it was useless. She could not move. Amber began to struggle “what the hell’s going on, get off me!” shouted Amber while struggling to free her arms. The scraping noise became stronger, louder, Amber focused concentrating trying to see what it was that surrounded her, and then she saw something, a shadow. It was large and wolf like, but also unlike anything she had ever seen before. It looked like a wolf yet was somewhat bigger, taller, and stronger; the beast had a strange scent. It was like rotting flesh. Amber’s stomach began to roll.
Amber continued to struggle. Her eyes began to focus. If Amber could see her eyes herself she would say they began to glow, the room around her illuminated. She could see as if she were in daylight, she could clearly make out the beast’s now, but something inside herself told her she was not alone and it wasn’t the beast that made her panic. It was something else. Something she couldn’t see, but could feel, it made her skin crawl, made her body shiver.
“What are you?” said Amber trying her best to hold herself together. The huge creatures began to make large circles around Amber. Growling, holding their heads low. Bearing their teeth, ready to attack.
“There is no escape this time,” a voice replied, deadly and calm.
Amber panicked “What do you want with me? I’ve done nothing wrong!” She screamed while continuing to try and free herself from the shackles that were wrapped around her legs and arms.
“It isn’t what you have done child, it’s what you will become,” the deadly voice replied, then she saw it, two eyes deep and blue they were hypnotic, like crystals they glittered and shimmered. Amber had seen eye’s like this before but only ever in her dreams.
“What do you mean, what I will become?” answered Amber, the nervousness now entering her voice as she spoke.
“That, is something you no longer have to worry about now, Amber.”
Then she saw a figure of a man, it was the man from her dreams, beautiful, yet deadly. His whole aura was like death, he began to walk towards Amber who seemed to be lay on some sort of wooden table. It looked more like a sacrificial altar. Amber felt her eyes begin to full with water. She blinked back her tears; she was determined not to show any weakness to this creature.
“Please, no,” she whispered as a single tear escaped and fell from her eyes, as she watched the man before her pull out a large sword. It was the fiercest weapon she had ever seen, it had a goats head and horns for the hilt, and the blade was terrifying. All jagged with flicks of flame, but the sword was not silver in colour but black and deep crimson. Then something happened, suddenly the man stepped backwards as another person entered. Amber could not see this strangers face, only his back. He was tall, broad shouldered, full of strength, but his aura was different from the blue eyed demon. His was justice and strength, and for some reason the others seemed to fear him. They began to move back into the shadows. Even the strange creature like wolves would not approach him. The stranger put his body in front of Ambers, shielding her from the other dark beings, and then he spoke.
“Back off, Lucifer!” he snarled.
“This is not your place, Michael. Or your domain!” the dark voice replied
“The girl is under my protection, it would do you good to remember that, Lucifer! Now be gone!” he commanded, his voice echoing through the now dark room. The other dark beings instantly vanished, but the one with the blue eyes just stepped backwards out of sight, into the shadows.
Amber awoke with a start. She sat up panting heavily. Amber was in the old abandoned church hall on the sleeping bag; she put her hand to her heart and steadied herself. What just happened Amber thought to herself, until she began to feel an ache at her wrist and ankles. Amber pulled the sleeping bag down and examined herself. They were bleeding as if she had been tied down, friction marks of some sort “how can this be” she whispered to herself “it was just a dream.” Confused Amber looked around the old hall slowly. She noticed Michael sat in the far corner, sat next to a single candle while it flickered. His violet eyes shone in the dim light. He was whittling something from wood, Amber couldn’t make it out exactly, but it looked like a wooden figurine of some sort. Michael stopped what he was doing and looked up towards Amber.
“You should get some sleep, they won’t disturb you again tonight” said Michael as he diverted his eyes and continued to cut and shape the wood. Amber didn’t understand how he knew about her dreams. Could he have really saved her, no maybe she hadn’t woke up at all, that must be it thought Amber as she settled herself back down, she didn’t know why buy she felt safe around Michael, smiling Amber drifted off into a peaceful sleep.
