The Autistic Parent

We'll never be close,
I'll never confide in you.
You can blame it on me,
But remember what you didn't do.
On that scary ride at Disney,
I was five and called for mommy,
You yelled angrily, didn't you?
That didn't make me love you.
What about every joke,
made on my behalf?
Evert accomplishment,
that made you laugh?
What about every promise,
Every deal,
Every secret,
That wasn't kept?
What about all those eggshells,
You made me walk upon?
What about every second,
You were gone?
It'd hard not to be resentful,
When you weren't a father.
You're still a child,
But my childhood was defiled.
I waived my rights at age eight,
But I'm tired of doing your job.
Take your unfulfilled responsibilities,
Don't lecture ME about sympathy.
