Final Thoughts

I always knew you’d be the one
The one who would leave.
I knew it from the beginning.
And I decided to dance with you anyway.
So,
This is Love then.
Solitude & memories,
Unanswered questions.
I kept no physical evidence –
No letters cards or gifts.
Just one photograph remains
Buried deeply where I never look.
This pain is different –
No fear of rejection or
Not being approached.
Just no desire to offer my dreams to anyone.
I would like to meet again –
Just to share a meal.
At midday,
When anyone can sit together
Without it meaning too much.
We wouldn’t speak
But I would touch you
Very lightly where I used to
On your hip.
I would brush my lips
Just softly
Against your cheek.
Memories would flood in –
The ghosts of ourselves would surround us.
We would order our favorite dish,
The one we never eat anymore.
We would sit together –
Enjoying the fantasy for a short time.
One more touch.
One last kiss –
A silent goodbye.
How long I wished to disappear –
And now, without you –
I finally have.
