I survived on oranges and hope
but I have encased my heart
in steel & ice
yet dreams still crack the case
owls & whiporwills sing you to sleep
& never again will my skin touch yours
I've swallowed those dreams
allowed my spirit to wander
& wonder why?
you've grown sunburnt and cold
while I put on layers of stone
to become more mountain than myth
I was fearless with you
now just haunted
by a whirlwind of things I can't have
you covered my lines and shadowed your heart
& all the things we dreamed can never be
in the end,
I am without words.

In the second line, do you mean 'encased'?
Lovely poem, hauntingly beautiful and very much enjoyed :)

There are some stunning lines in this, I love the references to nature and how you add mystery and ambiguity to your poetry. You had me at the first line!
