He walks Long through life
The lines worn into his feet our filled with crusted dirt from the unseen miles
Fractured vertebrae and exposed nerves
(Why couldn’t I be your girl?)
He doesn’t flinch anymore when his feet feel the sharp rocks from beneath
But the sparkle of death in the open space brings unseen tears
Part of him wants the pain to cease
The other fears
Without the pain he could be lost
No burning anger to encourage
To make right in front of left
And the other fears
Without the pain he will be lost
For with no anger he is just a man…
With a long walk
Through an unpromising life
(But oh how I loved him when I was his girl)
