Happy Birthday Doctor

Happy birthday, you are sixty today.
In sixty three on black and white tv,
at thirteen years old I watched that
first episode, when Susan’s teachers
followed her back to the Tardis,
Then in sixty five we emigrated
But you’d not yet arrived, at least
not in Kalgoorlie; it was later
in Perth that I caught up with you,
in glorious colour and a link with
that other Gallifrey I’d left behind.
At twenty three sharing with mates,
we’d watch you laughing, on a spiff,
and on and off, you were still there;
so, when I worked in London in my
flat, with a G & T, watching tv,
You were still there, with a new face
but the same adventures, and even
after they killed you off you still
regenerated and came back again
in twenty five, and now you’re here.
So, old chum, on Saturday night.
I’ll put up my feet, a single malt
to hand, and toast your survival
and watch your latest special, as
once again, you save humanity.
But could you please do it for real?
