Strange Advent

Haven’t you heard?
Christmas is now cancelled.
So, there’ll be no celebrating,
and no meeting and greeting,
in the festive season.
So, go tell the wise men,
that they’re no longer wanted
for the child they were seeking,
with his family are now fleeing
and have now lost their way.
Fleeing from danger,
the refugee family arrives,
to where land and sea divides;
across which they pray,
their safety may finally lay.
Their last money is now spent
on a leaking rubber dinghy
that’s meant to carry them over,
to where they can recover,
in a new promised land.
In despair ignoring portents,
they give their consent,
to board the flimsy craft:
Yusef – Maryam – and child,
refugees clinging to hope.
Such a strange Advent;
with star-shells illuminating
upon the recessive sea;
while Boarder Forces are seeking
what fishermen now dread,
what may lie within their nets.
So, haven’t you heard?
Christmas is now cancelled.
with no celebrations and
no meeting and greeting for the Christ-child can’t to be found:
He is now drowned.

Happy War, Christmas is Over
A terrible situation but good words Dougie. If Maryam and Yusef were to go wandering through that part of the world today, the greatest story ever told would have a much different ending.

Revision
Oh, Dougie. Whenever I try to read any of my old bits of writing I end up just poking holes in them and telling myself that these days I could do a much better job. I've looked at some of the writing that I did before I joined ABC with the idea that with just a few tweaks I'd have something decent to post on here but going back to it I've found that it's complete and utter rubbish. So really, they all need revision. Maybe I'll do a bit of that when I've finished dealing with the pile of half written stuff that I've got. So that's my excuse.
I'm really sorry to hear that you've been feeling low. I hope it's a temporary thing and I hope you get a lot more cherries.
