Once Bitten...

I’d exorcised the ghosts,
Laid them all to rest,
The dead had been buried,
The gravestone set.

Yet I hear the whispers sound once more,
Promises that snared my heart and faith,
To light the flames of hope anew,
But tainted now by poisonous truth.

Was the laughter not enough?
Did my pain not sate your hunger?
You would feed forever on my innocence,
And shatter this heart I offered to you.
