The Road

Heart, engine, racing
World flashes past
Lights in the distance.
Tail lights, pull out
Crest the hill
Blinding white lances.
Disbelief, fear, panic
Brakes hit hard
Tyres squeal, impact, silence.
Twisted, torn, broken
Bone and flesh
Steel and fibreglass
Angry, sad, resigned
Pick up the pieces
Shakes head, prays, “No More!”
