Answering the cry, from homes they come
Where wives are working
Where children, crying.
From fields of mud, to homes fly letters
Where wives are waiting,
Where children, praying.
In trenches deep, of homes their thoughts
Where nights stay dark
Where horrors, distant.
At battle’s dawn, for homes hearts wish
Where words are weapons
Where young men, live.
As Death’s dark falls, for homes they pray
Where roars no gun,
Where sings no bullet.
