The Day The World Economy Stopped

The Factory was a noisy place. Conveyor belts carried the product through the production process, while workers did things to the product or just made sure the machinery was working. Above the din a music could be heard.
“Have you heard that before?”
“They don’t usually play music like that in here,” said one worker.
“It ain’t the radio,” said one.
Even the line managers started listening, although one or two of them started shouting at people, trying to get them back to work again. You could tell the managers whose hearts weren’t in it, although you would never have known normally that they weren’t so keen.
“It’s like classical music,” said one.
“Yeah it is a bit, but I don’t recognise it.”
“It’s progressive rock perhaps?”
“It’s good whatever it is. Certainly takes your mind off work.”
They have virtually all stopped their work to listen, while the machinery grinds on, unconcerned, and uninterested in music. The music is like some magic upon the people. It affects them as if they have never heard music like this before. They are awakening to a new dream, not heard before.
An office block halts its work. The people open the windows and breath in the fresh air, as if they have not felt the need of fresh air for years. Many of these people have indeed worked here every day for years, decades. It could easily have been centuries, as many of them feel, and there has been no prospect that most of them were ever going to move to pastures new and form any sort of excitement or true feeling in their lives.
As the music beckons them towards new life, truth and the realisation of their true self are spread amongst the people. Trees and flowers, and the grasses respond. Green life is bending towards the light, growing almost perceptibly up the sides of building, along concrete and tarmac paths and into the heart of cities, creeping, freshening the air, responding to the changing moods of the music. It must be nature restoring the balance, returning to the grim natureless workplaces, the places of man’s imprisonment.
The masters are gone. The god of money and greed has been overthrown. The people will be free now. Innocence will return along with nature. The bad ‘dream’ of the ‘exploiters’ will fade with time. Some of them turn back to the true ways, the worst of them are on the run and will not remain for much longer.
