the “proper” age of suicide

seems to be a “proper” age
for suicide---
for when people are young &
they take their lives,
regardless of what said life was like,
they are declared to have been a
“saint” of some kind,
like the world has stopped &
everything silent
sings the praise for the lost youth,
because
“they had so much more life to live,”
&
“it’s just such a shame,”
etc.
and the newspapers will write about it.
and the bloggers will write about it,
and the television will report it,
and there will be youtube clips of those reports about it,
and everyone will put it on facefuck,
and everybody will use their 140 or so characters
on twatter to announce it---
until that short life has been announced to the stars.
now, when you get to be a certain age,
beyond that of any usefulness
to the rat race,
beyond the ability to be exploited by the
agents of commerce &
capitalism---
you know, just when the wrinkles set in,
or perhaps even earlier,
when you’ve passed that chance
you can’t ever get again---
this is when you can blow away with the dust &
no one will give a shit---
that’s right,
you can do it whatever way comes to your head first
or you can mull over it all night,
wanting to go out as dramatic as possible---
but unless you take out a bunch of people with you,
unless you blow up a building full of stock brokers,
or whatever Hollywood ending you might see fit,
you will be swept right under the carpet,
you’ll be lucky if they even remember your name.
