before he met the woman

prior to the horrible car accident

that killed her

two years after they’d been married,

could never be known

to the passenger riding &

listening to his apparent

confession.

but for the cabbie to learn

what there really was to live for,

it took more than what his dad---

the amphetamine addict,

or his mom---

the drunk,

had bothered to tell

him.
