the immeasurable patience of the dog

you all know him, you know her,

the dog, the loyal, the devoted,

the cute, the cuddly,

the fun to play with,

the protector,

the one who gives solace

when everyone else leaves the house

sick of listening to you---

the dog with whom you pass the time,

the wonderful creature that always has

positive things to bark about

you,

s/he awaits patiently as you sit down in your

comfy chair &

watches you as you unwrap your

sub, your doughnut,

as you pull out the slice of delicious pizza from

the box,

as you shovel that tasty spiced rice into your

gullet,

all with one initiative, one goal

that asks for such determination,

such persistence,

such focus,

that you will not be able to resist---

for before that foodstuff is gone from your own

hands,

no doubt

you will be offering a bit to that devoted one,

who smiles lovingly in the way that they can,

even though we both know that the

opportunist

had never left the room---

s/he had the taste on his/her mind the whole time &

yet another victory has been

got.
