It's all about bread

It is important to be able to look down
on your enemy. Though they are not enemies
rather bread and butter. That sort of spongy white pap
I wouldn't give my three.
But then that's why They are like this.
They could have wholemeal or oat enriched.
Moan that sliced white's cheaper. Get a bread machine!
My partner makes all ours, loves it! He's quite obsessive
with his special flours. What do you think of this one?
I'll tell him you liked it. The tomatoes? Those sunripened plums
are new, I think, I first saw them a couple of weeks ago
thought I'd give them a try, want to encourage the supermarket
to, well, increase their selection. It's good to try new things.
Much better than those boring six in a pack.
It's important to encourage children to eat vegetables
otherwise it's not surprising they have colds all the time.
Did you see that poor little thing, always has a cold?
We've got our eye on the mother. She's not coping. No job.
No self discipline. She always looks as if she's ill
must run in the famly. Probably drinking or on drugs.
We'll have to have a little chat. Friendly. We're here to help.
I'll even have her kid round here. Where I can keep an eye on things
But mine won't go to her's. Why? Well, you know!
Oh I suppose I'll have to go. Lunch hour finished
twenty minutes ago. I know, but they're very good, no one
makes a fuss if I'm a few minutes late. I'll just say
I was handling a difficult case. It's only that ghastly couple
having contact time with their kids. Honestly
they won't notice. Doesn't matter if they do, they'll see
them again next week anyway. So long as I'm out on time
my youngest is so sensitive, he gets in a state
if I'm not there at the childminders on the dot
I know, she's the best there is round here
but it's not the same as Mummy, is it?
He's so intelligent. He'll do great things.
I've brought him up to think of others, though
it's probably an osmosis thing
having a mummy who's a social worker.

Some tight,sharp observation
Some tight, sharp observation in this pen portrait. A very believable study of (unjustifiable) smug

I kind of like this
A lot of truth in this, but I think it would have a greater impact if it was written as a conversation, however it is very valid.
Certainly made me remember some of the "middle class" conversations I've heard around a dinner table (can't say who's though )

This makes me cringe, such an
This makes me cringe, such an accurate depiction. There was a stalwart of these types near me. I recall one woman talking about a couple with a child in the same year as ours, he worked in Tesco, she worked as a 'lunchtime controller' she described them as 'ghastly, I hate that couple,' she said quite earnestly. What a passive bully.

When I lived in inner city
When I lived in inner city Edinburgh there was lots of food snobbery among playgroup mums. I have also been a client of social workers more than once. The standard varied but I often felt that it was best to stick on a plastic smile, communication was a bad idea. I wonder if social workers will get phased out, they miss so much of what happens on their watch, Rotherham, Rochdale,Sheffield, Newcastle... Then what?

There are still some
There are still some genuinely consciencious social workers I'm sure, just as there are some other mums who really want to be friendly when you're down. The expectations of society on social workers has put pressure to tick boxes, look over your shoulder, but neglect genuine kindness and common sense. Ordinary Mums who boast about their parenting, may sometimes find they have made a good show to their friends, but lost touch with real relationship with their growing children to help them face the coming problems of life and adolescence. Liberal dilemma of the day -
Liberal dilemma of the day - is it ok to donate junk food to the supermarket food bank? I eat too much chocolate but I would not buy a packet of chocolate digestives for myself as I live on my own and I can't just 'have the one.' In fact I shouldn't have any as I am pre-diabetic. But I am sure that a lot of food bank customers have small children who might enjoy them. Next time I shall give something more a tiny bit 'healthy' eg canned soup, coffee, marmalade or marmite, I consume these products myself

under-estimating your enemy
Admittedly my comment has little to do with your poem just an observation on the first two lines, that in Chess your first mistake is to underestimate your opponent, which then is also your last mistake.
Please excuse! Nolan!

That's what happens when you play chess in a dream it's very frustrating.
