let's walk along the sidewalk
the streets are empty now
no cars or motor-bikes
no bicycles nor passersby
and the concrete is warm enough
to walk barefoot
so take off your shoes and
walk with me down the street
as the pavement
merges with the fading sky
it's quiet now, in the park
the wind is chattering with the trees
softly pushing their leaves
winding their branches down
here, it whispers into our ears
words that are undefined
but we understand their meaning
without the vowels
without the consonants
and without the letters that scatter
across the road signs
the summer is almost over
soon the leaves will change their color
and molder into the ground
the wind will turn colder
and speak harshly
to those left behind
left in the white blankness
of desolate winter fields
where the waking trees
no longer lean over us
but tomorrow is still far away
beyond the hills, where the sun rises
only to go out in flames
so let's walk down by the shore
and take in the ocean
like a breath of air
let its waves carry our weight
and the weight of the world
until the sun sets, stilly
into the creeping nightmare
