The words flew out of my mouth -
Like bats
Disturbed from their cave,
Before you could run for cover
They were tangled in your hair
Drawing red lines with tiny claws
Across your scalp and neck
Filling your ears
With a sickening pitch
Scrambling for soft tissue
Intent on leaving their mark.
