Tribute to the Cellar
When old soldiers bleed and die
for a cause.
It's not time to ask why.
When mourning, we, so the experts say,
Go through four stages.
Shock and anger at the loss,
Searching and questioning just why.
Why did they have to go.
For a while we'll stare,
And disbelieve the images we feel.
(Maybe, just maybe see the untruth)
Then for an even longer time, we'll cry.
No longer the questions and the Why's.
Out we might go, searching for a new cellar to set us up to glow.
We'll say it ain't the same, reminisce, and call it a shame.
But I guess (and know inside) everything,
eventually has to end with a small sigh and die.
Let's hope that for us, just like there has been for the cellar,
There's someone there left when our journeys done to cry.
