THE MERMAID AND THE TROUBADOUR
You walked the beach one morning as the suns rays first appeared.
A wind and wave creation, to my mind, solar geared.
You stare to the horizon, while waves queued to kiss your feet,
Gulls dance their aerial ballet, wheel and then retreat.
Your small and childlike footprints trail behind you as you pass,
Daring me to follow where you lead and take a chance.
In past lives, I was Icarus, a moth seared in life's heat
But still, I am drawn to you though it may mean defeat.
If you will be my mermaid I'll be your troubadour
And we'll sing and dance our way along the shore.
Your warmth is overwhelming but I follow where you go.
The sun renews our vigour so no tiredness we show.
My wings stay strong, no damage done; I've strength to fly away.
You're laugh, it soothes and gentles me. So easy now to stay.
Now night it gathers round us as a sax it far off plays,
Time has flown so quickly while suspended in your gaze.
We build a fire to warm us while our souls are lit, by fires
Sparked by our conversation flowing freely through the hours
If you will be my mermaid I'll be your troubadour
And we'll sing and dance our way along the shore.
Bright morning follows night sure as the sun pursues the moon
To find us lively, animated resting near a dune.
Conversation has not ended and our dance not half begun
So we spark and dance the day away and greet the morning sun.
If you will be my mermaid I'll be your troubadour
And we'll sing and dance our way along the shore.
