Happiness

Material happiness
is easily gained
and easily lost.
The image of perfection.
A semi-detached house
in a nice safe area.
Nanny for the children when young,
two cars in the drive way.
Wide screen TV
surround sound
271 channels.
But inside tells a different story.
Dad's having an affair with the secretary,
Mother's ran away with the milkman.
The 2.4 kids are smoking and doing drugs.
The dog's had puppies with the rockweiller next door.
The image of desolation.
A small terraced house
in a rough neighboured.
Paint peeling from the door
garden full of weeds
two bikes in the garage.
Old and broken TV,
only gets 3 channels,
and then only in summer.
But inside tells a different story.
Dad works every hour he can spare
yet still has time or the family.
Mum lies on sofa,
extended belly showing coming addition.
Fist child
eagerly anticipated
desperately hoped for
loved to perfection.
Happiness
is found in people
not in objects.
Love cannot be replaced
with technology
or contentment with secrets.
Is it better to have
to little to go around
yet all the love in the world?
Or everything in the world
and too little love to share.
