Addiction & Subtraction

There are only minuses,
my mind knows this.
Yet my heart still longs
for the smell, for the taste;
for the tacit implication
of wanting something
I know is hurting me.

But such is the drug,
the heart of the matter;
its very essence evoking
everything you are
and all the things we shared
in the time we once had,
times for which I still yearn.
