A Letter To America

Dear America,
As many of you are aware of, there will be a government shutdown in but a few days. Now I know many people watch the news, CNN, MSNBC, and we can throw Fox News in there as news, and each station has been extensively covering the expected shutdown. But one station in particular, and I will not name who, has been giving out false information as to why America is having this shutdown, and this letter is for all the Americans who watch this “Faux” news.
You see, this news station likes to point fingers as different people than the other two stations do, basically just for the sake of having a different opinion. Today this station pointed their fingers at Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid. Now the reasoning was not false, but the bias was unjustified and, quite frankly, 100 percent incorrect. Senator Reid has been, and still is, pushing for financial support for Planned Parenthood. As many of you know around 90 percent of what planned parenthood does is abortions, and for some reason unknown to many of us in congress, this one news station has a bias against this. Now they do not come out and say they have a problem with it, but you can definitely tell they are against it….the way that one guy with the blonde hair stares intently at that one girl with the blonde hair, and how that one guy who isn’t the blonde haired guy stares intently at the guy with the blonde hair…actions speak louder than words.
Harry Reid’s opinion is in-fact correct, Planned Parenthood should remain funded, and don’t worry Americans, it will be. For congress and President Obama (who is NOT Bush might I remind you) will not stand to see yet another baby who, out of the will of an irresponsible mother, wind up in a dumpster, or a river, or Kevin Federline. And remember what President Obama said, “I do not want my daughters to have to pay for their mistakes,” and comfort can be had from this quote because, quite frankly, Bush did not say it.
But to just dismiss the craft of Planned Parenthood as simply “murder,” and to quote the news station, “Planned parenthood should never come before our troops. The troops who kill people for the good of the country should ALWAYS come before people who kill babies for the good of themselves.” Even though they did not actually say anything like this…the facts still hold. This is in fact a reason for the government shutdown, so rest assured Americans, Reid’s got this.
And while we’re on the topic of paying the troops, these hypocrite republicans in congress are so hard-pressed on congress not being paid during the shutdown. They say “don’t pay government officials to not do work!” and that “anyone in the government should not be paid…..except the troops.” Now correct me if I’m wrong…which I’m not, but last time I checked I do believe military is a government job. So by that account I do not see any reason why they should get paid. Ask anyone in the military and they’ll tell you that they do what they do for our country, the do it because they love their country….not because of the money.
I rest my case.
This station also committed an act called “the double dip,” which if any of you have watched the Bill Cosby cartoon “Fatherhood,” you may be familiar with this term. It is basically leaving out information that is important to the deciding factor. Some examples of this would be not saying the name of the pot-head when you’re describing to your parents who you’re hanging out with, or when you buy virus protection from your computer it leaves out the point that it doesn’t protect your computer from viruses acquired from downloading pornography (……………..). Here is the information they left out:
Rumors are being spread by this news agency saying that the shutdown is going to happen because the republicans and the democrats will not reach an agreement and compromise on the debt issues such as cuts. There is about as much truth in this as 9/11 not being planned by Bush (hint: 0% truth). The democrats have nothing to do with this issue. The Democrats have a perfectly partisan plan to deal with the debt and the republicans do not want anything to do with. They are so adamant on their plan and by just increasing the amount of cuts it’s ludicrous! The Democrats tried to bargain with them, but alas there comes a point where it goes from compromising to giving in; and we agree (as I’m sure you as Americans do also) that Planned Parenthood, Joe Biden’s train station, a children’s museam in Sacremento, upkeep on a walking trail, replacing current buses with hybrid buses that will get an astonishing 3 miles per gallon better, extending unemployement benefits for 2 years, grape and wine research, turning an old bank into a 26-room hotel, turning an old opera house into a bar, and bring live Jazz music to Lincoln Center, New York, are not things that we can afford to discard. In comparison to (to keep the trend) paying the military, these programs a must and take priority over lowering the debt…because remember, we can always raise the debt limit if need be.
In regards to the debt limit, even though (as far as I can tell) every republican in congress is opposed to the idea of raising the limit, you have to not listen to them. The only “bad idea” here is NOT wanting to raise the limit. The reasoning is simple; we do not have the money right now to not raise it. A lot might say that with these cuts congress (as in the republicans) want to make will allow us to start paying back our debt, it does not work that way. You cannot just bring the economy back THAT quickly. President Obama has been doing everything he can to fix Bush’s mistake, including the economy, starting a war, 9/11, and most importantly making people think “nuclear” is pronounced “nucular.” President Obama has accomplished many achievements such as the stimulus bill; the largest check ever written, tax cuts, health care reform, extending unemployment benefits, and being closer than ever to closing Guantanamo Bay Prison. All of these accomplishments in an effort to save the economy from Bush’s mess. I can assure you that there is nothing more he can do to make the economy go faster. So, the democrats in congress have all decided to raise the limit now, and pay it back later. Trust me when I say that this is the best choice we have.
But the debt limit is an argument for another time. Right now in an attempt to come to an agreement with the budget, it is an endless struggle to reason with the republicans. But as we continue with the debates, I shall leave you all with this: In times like these everyone will have to sacrifice for the good of the country, and the government. We all as Americans need to share the responsibility for the spending, and the people who do not have all the luxuries we do. Hopefully America will be able to avoid the government shutdown…or at the very least if we do, your congressmen who work hard for you will still get paid.
