Sleep Walking

Breathing my breathes day and

night; little puffs to stay alive.

Living life in peace and relative

Western comfort with smart

phones, multichannel tee-vee.

Watching virtual war-games

streamed to the computer for

prizes, dealing with life’s little

problems of income-tax the price

of milk or potatoes and it feels

like being at a picnic on a magic

summer day with azure above,

studiously ignoring the biggest

Cumulus Nimbi ever known on 

the horizon encircling with clear

intent on spoiling the party, but

still we sip our Chardonnay and

see no reason to bring an umbrella

Good poem! It certainly could be very appropriate to the present moment!

and the possibility of being vaporised by a nuclear bomb. I was too young to remember the Berlin airlift  or the Korean war, but the Cuban missile crisis had me and my mates convinced we were going to die at any minute. I think that's what started the hippy movement --- enjoy while there's time. I know people felt that way during WW2.

1989 was a great relief, we could all breathe again. I bought into it until Yeltsin died and Putin took over and I learned Putin was ex-KGB. I knew he couldn't leave it there and of course he can't. That became clearer as I saw his political manouverisms. 

It seems to me capitalist greed played into his hands as they did with the Chinese. 

The unease we felt back in the sixties has come back big time. We don't wanna wake up, but maybe we should stop dreaming.

I'm not intersted in politics all I want (all I ever wanted) is to live in peace --- REAL peace. 

Probably the normal Russian folks feel the same about the West.

Putin and Russia is certainly a big worry, and source of instability right now. No one really can be sure whether he will maintain a posturing and hard bargaining peace, or whether he really might go for what is within his grasp! And then there is China too?
