A Goliath
standing akimbo
in the back of the van.
Turning quickly
he grabs two bags
one each
in his huge arms
and he pitches them down
to the portly woman below
like bread
to a starving tribe
except these aren't loaves,
these are heavy -
laden with goods
and they rain down like meteors.
She struggles to catch them
to put them aside
before catching the next spray.
She is quickly
out of breath
while the giant shadow
spins
and
lifts
swivels his hips
and flings the bags
into air
like rubbish
into a skip.
He tugs at a bag,
inside is ripe,
glistening.
A second later
it is flying
in an arc
towards
the ground
where it stops,
slides,
contents shattered.
Inside, juice slops like blood
amongst pulpy green flesh;
the fluid oozes
out of the bag.
The man just watches as the woman bends
and slowly picks up the package
reverentially,
and slowly passes it to me to dispose of.
Unsentimental,
frustrated,
the man hurls bags.
Exhausted,
browbeaten,
she catches.
From the back of one van
into another
and there is space for
one more.
'Perhaps we can salvage them',
and he takes the bag into his huge hands
under the woman's contented stare.
