Kumo let his legs dangle off the side of the building, watching cars go by. Music pulled him away from the world, his ear buds blocking out the mundane noises. His dark green-blue eyes rose up into the cloudy sky and he leaned back on his hands. His dark red, almost brown hair fell in his face and he blew it out half-heartedly.
Eten slammed the door to the roof, walking out into the open space and closing his eyes for a moment, not realizing he had company. He opened his eyes with a heavy sigh and watched the ground passively as he walked over to the edge and began walking on the edge of the building, one foot in front of the other. Stupid teacher. He thought angrily. He stopped short, holding his arms out for balance, a thrill shooting through him as he quickly regained his balance as he looked up to see what was in his way.
Kumo’s dark green eyes slid sideways blinking at the boy... o.o He leaned forward and pulled out his buds, staring expectantly.
“The fuck are you doing up here?” Eten hissed, stepping back, eyeing the boy. Kumo rose an eyebrow and looked away, back at the sky.
“Enjoying the air.” he said calmly. Eten narrowed his eyes.
“You got in my way.” He said, irritated as he stared down at him. “The roof is my spot.” Kumo blinked shaking his head,
“I’ve never seen you up here before.” He said.
“I’m here almost every day.” Eten hissed, defensively.
“Oh... well this is my hour of the day I’m up here.” Kumo said with a shrug. Eten huffed in anger.
“Stupid.” He muttered angrily. Kumo’s eyebrows shot up and he smiled, slightly amused.
“I’m Kumo. Kurosaki, Kumo.” he said cheerfully.
“I don’t care.” Eten turned away, staring off into the street absently.
“Mmh... What’s your name?”
“It doesn’t matter, you don’t even know me.” He said, shrugging, not looking at the boy.
“...Well, that’s why I asked. It’s usually considered the first step in learning about someone.” Kumo pointed out with an amused grin.
“Stop smiling. It’s stupid.” Eten snapped, crossing his arms across his chest. “....It’s Eten.” He added finally.
“Great. Nice to meet you.” Kumo said cheerfully sullen as he made his smile disappeared into a frown instead.
“Stop that… it’s weird…” Eten responded, watching in slight surprise as Kumo’s smile turned into a frown per his request.
“Than what am I supposed to do? I can't even frown...? Woe is me.” Kumo said dramatically.
“Fuck off. Do whatever. I don’t even care.” Eten huffed again and reached around to stroke the tail pinned to the back of his pants in a nervous attempt to stay calm.
“Kay.” Kumo said cheerfully, leaning back on his hands, relaxed. Eten bit his lip and turned away, standing for a moment before taking a step back towards the door.
“Are you leaving?” Kumo asked, glancing back, looking just a little hurt about it. “I don't bite. I'm sure the roof is big enough for two.” Eten stopped and turned halfway around.
“I take up a lot of space.” He said flatly. Kumo stared at him...
“Then so do I... Holy damn. All of our five foot nothing take up all this space!” Kumo said dramatically waving his arms around.
“Shut up, I’m Five foot four.” Eten corrected him roughly. “I’m tall.” He said, his tone pouty.
“Mmh, maybe a little, compared to me.” Kumo said swinging his legs and grinning. Eten looked over at him, examining him from behind ebony bangs, unsure of how to respond. He’d never really had the advantage height wise. He stood awkwardly, stroking his tail nervously, contemplating his next move. He couldn’t decide whether to stay or leave. Kumo looked away and swung his legs,
“If you're going to go, go. You’re making me feel awkward.” Kumo said with a small sigh. Eten flared up, glaring at him and stalking back to sit beside him, closer than he intended.
“You’re the awkward one, Stupid. God. You and your stupid face. You don’t even fucking know.” He said. Kumo cast him an amused glance and looked up at the sky.
“Good to know.”
“Yeah, now you know.” Eten crossed his arms, looking down at the ground far below, his eyes widening as he realized where he was. He was sitting right next to this near stranger… how the fuck…. He thought absently. He huffed and turned away as his face began to grow warm. Kumo grinned and decided a bit of teasing was in order.
“Aw, you're getting embarrassed. How cute!” Kumo said happily. Eten bristled, turning to Kumo with bright fierce blue eyes.
“I am not!” He said, raising his voice. “I don’t get embarrassed.” He hissed, narrowing his eyes although his face grew even warmer at the mention. “Stupid.” Kumo just gave a small smile.
“If you say so~”
“I do! I do say so and there’s nothing you can fucking do about it!” He balled his hands into fists, digging his nails into the cement and becoming tense. Kumo propped himself up leaning on his hands.
“Why are you up here?” He asked, changing the subject.
“Because my English teacher is a bastard.” Eten said angrily. “Why the hell are you here?”
“This is my free hour. I’m up here every day.” Kumo said calmly. Eten frowned deeper and looked away awkwardly. He’d never had many friends. He didn’t know how to hold up a decent, civil conversation...though in his defense no one had ever put up with him for this long let alone long enough to carry on a conversation.
“Oh.” He said, still managing to sound angry. Kumo smiled amused.
“Uncle! You up here!?” A young cheerful voice broke the silence a short black haired boy with bright blue eyes bounded onto the roof spotting them.
“Good! Do my math homework!” Eten turned jumped and turned around, startled by the sudden commotion. He bristled, his gaze becoming even more defensive. His deep eyes sparked with fresh irritation. Kumo gave a small sigh not turning.
“Did you do my English report, Eon?” The boy bounced and glanced at Eten excitedly.
“Yeah!”
“Than no.”
“Okay- wait...what!?” Eon wilted, looking like Kumo just kicked his puppy.
“You bothered me during my not allowed to be bothered time.” Kumo pointed out, not looking back at all. Eon threw his hands in the air and stomped the ground.
“You said that last time!”
“I was taking a dump. Of course I did.”
“You! Tell him to do my math!” Eon said addressing the cat accessory dude. Eten turned to him glaring. If looks could kill, this boy would be dead. He wrinkled his nose in disgust.
“Go away, I don’t like you.” He said looking him up and down. Eon dropped to his knees and threw his hands in the air.
“No! Not another one! Uncle! Why can't nobody love me?!”
Kumo gave a sigh and finally looked back at his best friend.
“Because you do that. Now, go dress up like a girl and give me my English.”
“Gah! Shh nobody can know!” Eon hissed shooting a worried look at Eten.
“Everyone knows...” Kumo said bluntly.
“Nooo.”
“...”
“Noooooooo”
“...”
“Okay...I’m going... just... my math…”
“Fine. Stick it in my locker and go away”
“Kay.” Eon jumped up and ran to the door, entering the school once again.
Kumo pinched the bridge of his nose.
“That child gives me a headache...” He said unhappily. Eten pouted, trying to still his shaking fists. He glanced over at Kumo.
“Maybe he’ll fall down the stairs on the way down.” He muttered angrily.
“He probably will. He probably fell up them.” Kumo huffed shaking his head. Glancing over at the other boy, Eten bit his lip. He was actually tolerating him… weird.
He folded his hands and locked and unlocked his fingers nervously.
“Good.” He said quietly. Kumo nodded falling into silence, content not to say anything. Eten stared down at the sidewalk below, letting himself fall deep into thought, his eyes becoming glassy before closing. Kumo shifted and moved to his feet, stretching like a cat in the sun.
“It was nice to meet you, Eten. We’ll have to hang out again sometime.” Kumo said with a cheerful smile. Eten opened his eyes and looked into Kumo’s fiercely, giving a pouty huff in response, his cheeks turning a light pink.
“Y...Yeah whatever.” He said softly, the anger seeping out of his tone. Kumo gave a soft laugh and nodded.
“You’ll know where to find me.” He said leisurely walking into the school.
