The Hell of It

All I want
is to let you rest on my shoulder.
This world will smash you into
the static snow of broadcasting’s over.
Where is my heart?
It hurts too much, why bother?
Too icy to shiver, I just go pale
pale pale pale with cold.
A bleached-out sky and spitting snow
that will never never melt; I
fear never again, never before
ache with the hack-apart of innocence.
Politeness implodes and sprays debris in a
wave down the street,
a tumbling tumbledown.
I bang bang across the bridge.
Will I
I can
leave the skin behind.
Spread like plane-stretched clouds
across the water.
My lungs bang against my chest
I bang back to my body,
back to you.
Worry is a furry
little animal.
I wrap it around you,
to keep you safe.
