Wake Up (Stop Sleeping)
You can choose to lie in bed,
Elect to waste away your day,
The world is free for you to choose,
Your own footpath and your own way.
Feel free to sit and not take part,
In all the games that others play,
You have a voice but it’s your choice,
If you don’t want to have your say.
For all those rags and wasted lives,
That wash up on some distant shore,
The husbands, children and the wives,
Are so far off you can ignore.
And why ever would you question why,
so few are rich but most are poor,
or why the NHS and welfare state,
are things that areworth standing for.
For barricades what need have you,
Why ever would you choose to listen,
To the drums that others beat,
When you have your private mission.
An office desk, a house, a car,
The gemstones of such blind ambition,
Forget plastic seas and cut down trees,
Those are not the things that glisten.
Though when it’s time to draw your pension,
despite the things you have been told,
It will be far too late to mention,
All that glistens is not gold.
So though you choose to lie in bed,
I take this last chance to persuade
you that perhaps you should instead,
Get up and man that barricade.

I very much like this,
I very much like this, especially the way you seem to have simply got it down without worrying too much about perfect form. I like the subject matter too. I’m also a fan of Grace Petrie so you couldn’t go wrong there.

I feel nostalgic
I feel nostalgic when did you write the poem it looks like a typewriter! Yes I need my beauty sleep too and they like it even less when you don't sleep. Actually it's not funny once you've seen it. You can't keep everybody happy all the time.
From me also, Gabby welcome to ABC! Tom Brown

How where?
How where? New English? Newspeak? My schooldays were great here in South-Africa don't know about my teachers I had a problem with authority from the word go. My father was very hard on us the school discipline was a joke.
Sorry you had such a hard time getting rigged up one should appreciate your efforts more. Admirable.
Cheers! Tom Brown
