Charlie Snape

A predicted week-end of rain meant one thing... Bank Holiday!Henry looked up at his mistress with his melting brown eyes wagging his tail expectantly and then slunk back to his basket.
Charlie had perused his paper without comment and was now onto the plates;his newish glasses tipping slightly on his nose. Charlies family had clubbed together to buy him these glasses as a christmas present. This decision had ensured he walked his eldest daughter down the aisle with not only a hired suit but also new glasses rather than what they called 'Those professor things!
The Snape family had united and stood stead-fast against this man who said he planned to wear the 'second-hand suit' he had worn to his own wedding nearly four decades ago. He was proud that he could still fit into it and prouder still that his size 9 winkle picker shoes still fitted him.
Sybil waited for him to answer the phone which allowed her the time she needed to gather the 'out of date food' and rush it to the boot of her car. There was little point in dropping it into her own bin as he would only take it from the dust-bin and return it to their fridge.
'There's too much fuss about this safety issue, can't do this,if there's mould on the food then do what my mum did and scrape the bloody stuff off! Sybil muttered and swore as she took it back to the bin and tipped more rubbish over the offending food.
She should have known better than throw his slippers out as he had repaired them and they were joyfully back on his feet smiling at her so to speak.
When their children were small it wouldn't be unusal for them to be identified with the words
" Did you have a nice time on holiday....we saw you in Minehead....Butlins again Charlie!
He drove a Cortina at the time. Never wanting to waste anything he had painted the roof of their car as well as the bonnet pink.
As far as Sybil could remember he hadn't ever spent more than three hundred pounds on a car.
"New cars always depreciate once you drive them out of the showroom Sybil!
Their children slouched rather than sat in the back of the car and would insist he never ever drove them to school as they loved to walk everywhere.
Nothing wore out in their house but was, in the end, repaired by him. This matter was all for well but for one thing....he was a perfectionist...even a snail would over-take him. Many problems arose in the Snape house-hold not because he was a perfectionist but because she wasn't.
