Avoid the garden centre,
sit on a deck-chair
in your patch of mud
hold an umbrella
over a partner or lover.
Don't go to Alton Towers,
take your kids to South
Park and push them high
on rusty swings
and buy them not-so-hot dogs.
Instead of the Multiplex V,
squash onto the sofa,
eat crisps and cola cubes;
make them watch Zulu
and tell them it's a true story.
Stand outside Barclay's,
look at the closed doors
and the crowds beside
the ATM as
they get money to do things.
Keep your hands out of
your pockets and hold
your childrens' tightly.
Do something different
this bank-holiday, please.
